The truth is most people do not spend the amount of time cleansing the face that’s necessary, especially before bed.  All day long airborne bacteria, like pollution, dirt, debris, sweat, sebum, old skin cells, etc. are attracted to your skin. These elements can potentially cause premature aging, acne, unnecessary pigmentation and other skin ailments. To avoid this from happening Double Cleansing is the answer!  If a face isn’t properly cleansed and then you go to apply any nighttime moisturizers and serums (the work horses) they simply will not be able to penetrate to a deeper level of the epidermis to do any significant work.

If you’re unsure of what I’m talking about, double cleansing is spending the time, approximately 1 minute, (I sing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) using a cleansing oil of your preference to break down your makeup, SPF, and sebum on the surface of your skin first, and then following up with a deeper water-based cleanser. Now, just because you did the first round for a minute, don’t rush the second cleanse either! On the second cleanse  that’s when the yummy ingredients are moving deep into your pores to remove impurities and target your goals based on what products you’re using.  That’s why, taking your time and massaging in the product is so important.  You paid for it so, you should get the full benefit of it too!

We spend time putting on our makeup so, doesn’t it make sense taking the time to take it off? You need to be removing the buildup so that you can gain all the benefits from your products.  Using lukewarm water is best as to not irritate your outer layer, especially if you have any skin conditions such as acne or rosacea.

Nighttime is when our skin does the majority of rejuvenation and a proper cleanse will give it the best chance for continual plumpness and maintaining a youthful glow.

If you think that you may be over-washing then the best suggestion I have is to change your cleanser.  Receive a proper skin analysis so that it can be determined what type of skin you have and what ingredients are best for you. We are not trying to disrupt the barrier mantle, we want to re-balance the skin properly.  Being sensible but consistent is the key and  is essential.
