Disclaimers: (1) I am not a medical professional, nor a CBD expert. The goal of this post is to share information about CBD and my personal experience with it.
CBD has been popping up everywhere in the health world, boasting benefits like pain relief, diminished anxiety, better sleep and reduced inflammation. Who doesn’t want that? I knew I had to try it out for myself.
Now, hands down, we’ve been blessed with such amazing clientele during our first 6 months of opening. I have to be honest though, with that success has come some soreness in my hands and early signs of carpal tunnel. Six facials a day will do that! I was leaving work sore and coming in sore. With that pain, along the way I also picked up a sciatica nerve problem as well but, that had been in the works for some time (I equate that to aging). Anyways, needless to say, I began to worry quite a bit about my hands and longevity as an Esthetician. I mean, if I was having considerable pain in my first half a year, how was I going to be able to keep up the pace? I had previously dabbled with CBD’s and did have pain reduction with my sciatica nerve problem but my new and bigger concern was definitely my hands. I spent some time obsessively researching CBD Oils and testing a few.
CBD. It’s everywhere. Your sister, grandma, and even holistic doctor talks about it. It’s in lattes, bath salts, lotions, oils, and creams.
First things first: CBD alone will not get you high. It is important to note that most CBD is non-psychoactive and will not give you a “high” or euphoric feeling. Just want to put that out there.
It seems like everyone can benefit from CBD. CBD oil has a long list of benefits:
- reducing chronic pain
- limiting epileptic seizures
- reducing inflammation
- reducing anxiety
- aiding in rheumatoid arthritis treatment
- reducing nausea
- depression treatment
- lessening inflammatory bowel disease symptoms
- helping with insomnia
- reducing psoriasis
- lower risk of diabetes
CBD comes in many forms: pills, creams, tinctures, oils, lip balms, cooking oils, adaptogenic blends, topical oils, and more. There is still differing evidence on the effects of CBD and if it works. Most of the information out there is anecdotal due to the lack of factual-based scientific research.
I thus far have settled on a company from Colorado called Bluebird Botanicals. They have complete transparency using online batch database testing for every bottle. That means that every bottle that leaves their facility has a batch number which can be used to find a full set of third party Certificates of Analysis. The tests include analyses for potential microbial life, mold, heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides, and complete cannabinoid profile. They have rigorous standards, from sourcing and harvesting, to compliance and production. Bluebird uses only the highest quality organic, natural, or wildcrafted ingredients. The following are the ones we retail within Basal Layer & Co.
